The car paintwork detailing process - It is worth it?
Car paintwork detailing is one of those terms that many car owners have heard a few times but not many can tell you exactly what it means. If you’re one of them, don’t you worry I’ll explain what car paintwork detailing is and whether it’s worth it.
The answer to your question is a simple one, car paintwork detailing is making your car's paintwork look brand new, just like it looked fresh out of the factory; or if I have anything to do with it, better than when it came out.
There are three types of detailing:
1) Protection detail - Very much what it says on the tin, protection paintwork detailing is using a wax, sealant or coating to, you guessed it, protect your paintwork. This is achieved by using wax, sealant or coating.
A paintwork protection detail will serve to maintain that ‘fresh out the factory’ paintwork and protect your investment. This is recommended for vehicles that are either brand new, your paintwork is free from any defects (hand of applause for that, I know it’s hard) or you’re happy with the condition of your paintwork.
2) Enhancement detail - Again, no medals for guessing what this entails. Paintwork enhancement detail aims to enhance the quality of your vehicle's paintwork. This will remove any minor imperfections and restore the paint's shine. An enhancement machine polish aims to achieve 70-80% reduction in minor scratches and swirl marks, improving the surface finish, and increase gloss my removing any minor imperfections in the paintwork, making the paintwork ready to receive the protection product of choice. (It’s important to note that this will not repair major imperfections such as scratches). This is one of the most popular services offered by PPM carcare.
3) Correction detail - this involves removing those pesky swirl marks and other marks from the top layer of your vehicle's paintwork as well as some of the deeper scratches and defects. Much like the above two types of paintwork detailing, this improves the overall look of your paintwork. A Correction detail is designed for cars that are screaming out for some care; cars that have major defects, whether you’ve taken it to one too many mechanical car washes or you washed it with a sponge that was too rough.
Advantages of paintwork detailing
The list of the advantages that vehicle paintwork detailing offers is a long one so here are some of the major ones:
● It improves the quality of your paintwork, giving your car that ‘straight out the factory look’, making your paintwork look new and vibrant.
● It increases the value of your car (definitely worth considering if you are looking to sell your car).
● With a clean, slick surface maitenance is reduced and easy to carry out when required.
How much does car paintwork detailing cost?
This very much depends on the size of your vehicle and which type of paintwork detail you desire. Prices start at £250 for an Enhancemnet detail, and starting at £400 for a Correction detail, depends on the current condition of the paintwork that needs correcting (If interested, please contact me).
How long does car paintwork detailing take?
Again, this depends on which package you choose. A paintwork protection detail will take approximately 1 to 2 days, enhancement detailing will take 3 days and correction detailing will take 5 days.
(This has changed as of lately, due to health conditions I have to attend Dialysis 3 days a week, this reduces my time available to work on vehicles and increases the time required to complete the work)
Is it worth it?
If you want to keep your car looking fresh and maintain its appearance all year round, this is a no-brainer. Improving the paintwork of your car is one of the best ways to make your car stand out amongst the worn-out counterparts out there on the road.
